i think people are confusing tinnitus with "ringing in the ears"

"ringing in the ears" is when you can hear a noise in your head, almost like a ringing sound. temporary phenomenon, last a few hours.

"tinnitus" sounds like crickets chirping, to varying degrees depending on how bad it is.
